WHAT IS CLUB SOCCER?

Club soccer is a locally organized soccer program whose purpose is to provide opportunity for youth soccer players to experience a healthy, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment to learn, love and live the game of soccer. The value of club soccer is usually related to access to higher level of coaching, year-round soccer, opportunities to play at a higher level of competition, and exposure to various venues.

WHO ARE THE GALWAY ROVERS FC?

Galway Rovers FC started in the Boston area in 1980. The roots of the club name hail from the Claddagh district of Galway, Ireland where the Galway Rovers achieved great success in the League of Ireland and FAI Cup. "The Tribesmen"--as that team is known, founded in 1937, played as Galway Rovers until they changed their name to FC Galway United in 1977.

Here in the United States, the club was founded by Martin Faherty who hailed from Galway and now lives in Holbrook. One of the key principles of the club was to form a competitive club with quality coaching and affordable fees and to allow the players the ability to continue to participate in other sports and not feel as though punitive action would be taken if they had a conflict.

The teams originally played their games at Derby school in Hingham before making Hingham HS their home in 2002.

WHAT IS THE GALWAY ROVERS CLUB MISSION?

This Club Mission is to develop great players, so they can continue to learn and grow as young adults. We teach our players quality skills, a solid tactical & technical sense.   As a Club we live by the Galway Goals.

  • First Goal - We provide a positive soccer experience with great coaches who are teachers and students of the game.
  • Second Goal - We are creative and innovative in the continuing development of our players.
  • Third Goal - We make all of our decisions by integrity and honesty.

WHAT ARE THE GALWAY ROVERS CLUB EXPECTATIONS?

Club soccer is a full year commitment.

  • The Fall season is Mid-September to Mid-November with a tournament Columbus Day weekend in October.
  • The Winter Season is Mid-January to the end of March with a one day tournament in February.
  • The Spring Season is April to the end of May with a tournament Memorial Day weekend in May.

Hopefully you’ve noticed that we have breaks during the year in which we believe makes us a desirable club.  We want the kids and their families to take a break from soccer over the holidays and in the summer to recharge their batteries and be prepared for the next season.
